In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF)
is a process by which an oocyte is fertilized by sperm in the laboratory, outside the body: in vitro (“in glass”), in order to obtain embryos for transfer to the mother’s uterus. The fertilization of the oocytes can be carried out by means of the conventional IVF method or by Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI).
Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)
The process in which sperm is initially prepared in the laboratory and then placed in the uterus by artificial means. This facilitates fertilization of the egg.
The process by which the oocytes of a donor are being fertilized in the lab, and the resulting embryos are transported to the recipient’s uterus.
Sperm donation is the process through which sperm from an anonymous donor is used. Donor sperm can either be placed directly into the uterus (Intrauterine insemination, IUI) or be used for fertilization of oocytes via IVF.
The surrogacy is the process through which a woman agrees to gestate the embryo of another person because her medical condition makes a pregnancy unlikely or dangerous.

Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)
is a method of assisted reproduction that is mainly used to treat fertility problems associated with sperm quality. When applied, the embryologist selects a morphologically normal sperm and injects it into the egg.
A fertility preservation technique in which oocytes are obtained transvaginally and cryopreseved via vitrification. The oocytes can be thawed and fertilized when needed.
Preimplantation Genetic Screening (PGS)
is used in conjunction with in vitro fertilization and enables genetic diagnosis in embryos resulting from IVF, to determine if there are numerical or structural chromosomal abnormalities and other genetic defects.
Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD)
Ιn cases of couples carriers of genes responsible for genetic diseases, Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) is applied, so that only healthy embryos will be transferred during IVF.
